Happy Chinese New Year!!!!

In The Year Of The Rooster, 2017 “The Early Bird Gets The Worm”.

Yet, there is no need to arrive early, if you are already present!

images-1

The Chinese Year of The Rooster comes around once every twelve years and is not only the first herald of spring but of a new year pregnant with opportunity and success as well as misunderstandings and potential skirmishes.   In the year of The Fire Rooster, the sages warn that we must prepare ourselves for “a period of immense changes” while at the same time, we must note that the Rooster crows at first light bringing hope and the potential for transformation.

The Rooster calls to attention a time for meaningful and harmonious action. We must unite in the present moment where there is room enough for all to stand in the center ~ at no cost to the next. This is the place where fellowship, peace and opportunity abound and is otherwise lost if we choose to bury our heads in the sand. However, to act without forethought will only lead to conflict and exhaustion.  Therefore, it is advantageous to arrive with a practical plan that is sincere and adheres to good old fashion values and common sense.

The Fire Element of Summer

IMG_7269

Summertime is considered the most yang time of the year~ The energetic qualities of each season represent the physical transformation of each element with regard to the cycles of nature. Summer is represented by the Element of Fire because it is the time of year when our environment is considered to be in full yang~ some of the characteristics include rising temperatures and longer days. Emotionally, a balanced Fire Element manifests itself in leadership qualities and warmth which brings out the best in others. Wholesome individuals recognize beauty and express passion in a way that fosters the success of those around them.

Welcome the Element of Wood

The spring is a time of awakening and rejuvenation ~ bringing the body from a state of stillness into motion.

In anticipation of the warmer, more active months ahead we continue to develop our skills

with new and invigorating practices to awaken and strengthen our energy for a smooth transition into summer.

The Element that represents Winter is Water

During the colder months, it is best to conserve our energies, to generate warmth and cultivate peace

By slowing down and turning inward, we align with the season in quietude and stillness.

This is the time of year for reflection and given the opportunity, our hopes and dreams will become the seeds of our future.

 The Five Elements

Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth

represent the fundamental qualities of nature  ~

The nature of water is to be fluid and adaptive.

EIGHT
The highest good is like water.
Water gives life to the ten thousand things and does not strive.
It flows in places that men reject and so it is like the Tao.

LaoTsu “Eight”. Tao Te Ching. Trans. Jane English and Gia-fu Chia-fu. Feng. London: Wildwood, 1972

Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse. ~ Henry Van Dyke

Canfield, 2012. S. Didato

Autumn is the season corresponding to the Metal Element and represents the Harvest time of the year in which the cool, dry air signals us to gather our essential resources in preparation for the Winter. In the chapter on the “Art of Life”, The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Chinese Medicine instructs us to “remain calm and peaceful” as dwelling in grief and depression, the “emotion of the lung”, will make it difficult to transition into winter. Instead one must “gather one’s spirit and energy” and strengthen the lung qi to “keep the lung energy full clean and quiet”.

Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

~ Melody Beattie

During this time of year Thanksgiving acts as a reminder to share our feelings of gratitude. Though each day we allow our gratitude to go inward, we celebrate a Thanksgiving that is imbued with the genuine expression of our true nature ~ everyday!
