Online Qigong for Health and Healing

Monday Evening on Falls River, S.Didato, 2019.

Fall Session: Autumn is the season corresponding to the Metal Element and represents the Harvest time of the year in which the cool, dry air signals us to gather our essential resources in preparation for the Winter. In the chapter on the “Art of Life”, The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Chinese Medicineinstructs us to “remain calm and peaceful” as dwelling in grief and depression, the “emotion of the lung”, will make it difficult to transition into winter. Instead, one must “gather one’s spirit and energy” and strengthen the lung qi to “keep the lung energy full clean and quiet”.

In this session we will incorporate seasonal Qigong sets into our practice that are particularly effective at strengthening the immune system and improving respiratory and cardiovascular function. Qigong is excellent for maintaining health and conditioning in small spaces.  All levels are welcome.

Spring Session:  The spring is a time of rejuvenation and awakening, bringing the body from a state of stillness into motion. In anticipation of the warmer, more active months ahead, we will be focusing on the Yi Jin Jing otherwise known as the Muscle and Tendon Strengthening Exercises. With an emphasis on awakening the spine, while gently stretching and toning the muscles and tendons, these exercises are an excellent way to invigorate our practice and boost our energy for a smooth transition into the summer.

Summer Session: We will be focusing on the Ba Duan Jin (also known as the Eight Pieces of Brocade), which is a good holistic exercise for maintaining health and conditioning in small spaces.  As an alternative to our regular classes, the Ba Duan Jin is known to be particularly effective at strengthening the immune system and improving respiratory and cardiovascular function.  Appropriate for all levels it can be practiced from a seated position as well as various depths of standing posture to strengthen the muscles and bones. Depending upon the number of repetitions and the amount of effort, it can also be a particularly challenging workout for those who are looking for serious conditioning – all levels welcome.

PLEASE NOTE: New classes and workshops to be announced ~
